Exhibiting in Chennai: What Exhibitors Should Know

What exhibitors should know about Chennai: the trade centre, the industries that exhibit, lead times from Bengaluru, weather and what to confirm early.

Chennai is a serious trade show city. Its exhibitions lean towards manufacturing, automotive, engineering, packaging, healthcare and industrial supply, and visitors are often buyers, plant heads and procurement teams who come with specific questions. A stall that works here is organised, clear about what you make and built with room for real conversations.

Most large shows in the city run at the Chennai Trade Centre in Nandambakkam. For exhibitors coming from outside Tamil Nadu, the practical questions are lead time, transport and the venue's build-up rules. We build Chennai stalls at our Bengaluru factory and ask for a brief 4 to 6 weeks before the show.

Who exhibits and who visits

Chennai's industrial base shapes its shows. Automotive and component makers, engineering firms, packaging and paper companies, healthcare and pharma suppliers, and electronics manufacturers all use the city's exhibitions to meet buyers from across South India.

  • Expect technical visitors who want specifications, samples and someone knowledgeable at the stall.
  • Plan a meeting space, even a small one, because many conversations become sit-down discussions.
  • Show products physically where you can. Visitors here often want to handle the item, not just see a screen.
  • Include printed or downloadable spec sheets in English, and consider Tamil signage where your audience includes local dealers or end users.

One example on the calendar is Paperex South India 2026, from 3 to 5 December 2026 at the Chennai Trade Centre, which brings together paper, tissue and packaging companies.

Planning for the Chennai Trade Centre

The venue has multiple halls, and conditions vary by hall and by show. Rather than assume a ceiling height or power setup, read the exhibitor manual for your specific show and check these points before the design is final.

  1. Your hall and stall number, the exact plot size and which sides are open.
  2. The maximum build height allowed and any rules on overhead structures or hanging.
  3. Floor load limits if you are bringing heavy machines, and how exhibits can be moved into the hall.
  4. Power order deadlines, the load you need and where the connection point will be.
  5. Build-up and dismantling timings, including whether crews can work late.
  6. Design approval requirements and the submission deadline.

Transport and timing from Bengaluru

Chennai is one of the shorter long-distance runs from our factory, which helps. Stalls are built, dry-assembled and checked in Bengaluru, then packed and trucked to the venue. The crew that built it travels with it and installs it.

  • Brief us 4 to 6 weeks ahead. Larger or more complex stalls need the longer end of that range.
  • Leave a buffer day in the transport plan for highway delays and venue entry queues.
  • Confirm the vehicle entry slot and loading area with the organiser, as large shows stagger arrivals.
  • If your exhibits are shipping separately, align their arrival with the stall build so machines go in at the right point.

Weather and the calendar

Chennai's heaviest rain usually comes with the northeast monsoon towards the end of the year, which is also when several shows take place. Rain affects transport, unloading and anything built outdoors. It does not change the stall inside a hall, but it can change how and when the stall gets there.

  • Pack graphics, electricals and finished panels for wet conditions.
  • Ask the organiser where trucks unload and whether that area is covered.
  • Build an extra margin into the build-up schedule during the rainy months.
  • For any outdoor element, plan weatherproof graphics and secure fixings.

Making the stall work on the floor

Good Chennai stalls tend to share a few traits. They show the product range clearly, they have a staff member who can answer technical questions at the front, and they give serious buyers somewhere to sit without blocking the aisle.

  • Put your hero product at the front corner, well lit, so it is seen from the aisle.
  • Keep the reception counter near the entry point so visitors are greeted, not ignored.
  • Add a lockable store for samples, brochures and staff bags.
  • Use bright, even lighting so product colours and finishes look right.
  • Keep graphics short: company name, what you make and one line on why it matters.

See more on our Chennai exhibition stalls page. If your plans include a dealer meet, client dinner or conference while you are in the city, our Chennai corporate events team handles hotel events too. Our Chennai location page covers the areas we work across.

Build-up and show days in Chennai

Our crew arrives with the stall and works from the same drawings used during dry assembly at the factory. At a busy show, the first job is getting the base and platform down and levelled, because everything else sits on it. Walls, fascia, counters and lighting follow, with graphics and final cleaning last.

We recommend that someone from your team visits the stall on the last build-up day. That is the right time to check product placement, test screens and power, and confirm the store has what your staff need. It is much easier to fix a missing shelf or a misplaced graphic then than on the opening morning.

  • Bring your products and display items on the last build-up day, not the opening morning.
  • Test every screen, demo unit and charging point with the stall power switched on.
  • Agree who on your team holds the store key and the contact number for our crew.
  • Plan staff arrival before the hall opens so the stall is ready when visitors walk in.
  • Confirm the dismantling time and who will pack your products before our crew starts.

Our crew stays through the show to handle small repairs, lighting problems or graphic touch-ups, and then dismantles and clears the plot at the end.
